A task-driven universal mechanical sequencer using upcycled cassette motors for low-cost AgTech & co
Descripción
Supporting the Universal Mechanical Sequencer Project
Welcome! We are developing a Task-Driven, Variable-Speed Universal Mechanical Sequencer powered entirely by upcycled cassette player motors. Our mission is to democratize low-cost, rugged industrial automation for small-scale farming and local cottage industries—completely independent of expensive microcontrollers, software, or delicate electronics.
⚙️ Why This Project Matters
Unlike traditional automated systems that rely on strict electronic clock-timers or fragile Arduinos, our core sequencer takes a rugged, physics-first approach.
🛡️ The Task-Driven Advantage
Because the mechanical track loop is Task-Driven (not Clock-Driven), the entire platform seamlessly supports variable operating speeds. If a module encounters tough physical resistance (like heavy clay or hard soil) and slows down, every subsequent step automatically waits for the physical completion of the preceding task before triggering. It is self-synchronizing, highly repairable, and immune to electronic bugs.
We are building a multi-module ecosystem around this single universal core: 1. 🥔 Potato Planter Module (AgTech): A purely mechanical attachment that automates digging, precise fertilizer micro-dosing, seed dropping, and hole covering as the machine moves forward. 2. 📱 SMS Replier Module: An electromechanical bridge where physical cams hit microswitches to trigger standalone GSM modules, sending cellular updates without needing an operating system. 3. 🧱 Alarm Task Trigger Module: This is where the mechanical sequencer is linked to an alarm whereby an alarm will trigger a specific task at a certain time. In this case, the sms sender is treated as a single task pilled together with other tasks.
☕ How Your Liberapay Contribution Helps Us
While we pursue large, structured institutional grants for heavy infrastructure (such as renting our professional industrial laboratory space in Nairobi and leasing utility vehicles for safe field-testing transit), our community on Liberapay is our bedrock.
Every dollar or euro contributed here is publicly accounted for and goes directly toward Laboratory Consumables & Prototyping Essentials, including: * High-carbon steel drill bits, taps, and dies. * Standardized industrial fasteners, nuts, bolts, and heavy-duty timing springs. * Rescuing donor components (vintage cassette player mechanisms) from local electronics scrap markets. * 3D printing filament (PETG/ABS) used for rapid prototyping of timing cams.
By backing us on Liberapay, you are ensuring that this project remains 100% independent, community-validated, and completely open-source.
